How to Share Courses to Your Moodle or eSkilled LMS Using LTI 1.1

In this article, we'll discuss the use of LTI 1.1 for easily sharing your AI-generated courses to your LMS. To easily follow the process, we'll break this into different parts.

If you use Moodle LMS, including eSkilled's Moodle LMS, we recommend using LTI 1.3 as it is the most secure and provides the best data progression reporting and grading data back to your LMS. See tutorial here.

Generating Keys in the AI Course Creator (AICC) Site 


1. Click the 'View Course List' button.




2. This page contains all the available courses.




Locate the course you wish to edit. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the pages to see other courses.



InfoNOTE: Use the category filter or search function to easily locate the course.




3. For the purpose of this tutorial, let’s use the ’BSBCRT411 - Apply Critical Thinking To Work Practices’ course as an example. Click on the 'three-dot' icon located in the upper right corner of the course.



4. Select ‘Enable LTI 1.1’.




You will see a prompt confirming that the LTI has been successfully enabled.



InfoNOTE: Remember to keep a copy of the generated keys, as AICC will not display them again.


Setting up the External Tool in LMS


1. Under ‘My Courses’, select the course where you want to add your LTI External Tool.




2. Click 'More', then select 'LTI External tools'.




3. This page contains a list of available LTI tools. Proceed by clicking the 'Add tool' button.




4. Enter your preferred tool name.



InfoNOTE: Ensure that the selected LTI version is LTI 1.1.
 

5. Please refer to your saved keys when typing in the following information:

NOTE: Keys are generated in AICC. Please refer to the previously mentioned steps on how to generate them. Below is an example of the generated keys.




6. Under ‘Services‘, click the ‘expand’ button to view all settings. 




Change all items with these recommended settings. Click on the 'drop-down' icon to view other options.




7. Click 'Save changes' once complete.




A notification will appear that the tool has been added.




Adding the External Tool to Your Course


1. Click ‘Course’ to edit your course.




2. Under the topic where you need to add the created external tool, select ‘Add an activity or resource’.




3. All available activities and resources will be displayed.  You may scroll down to view all activities or resources.




4. In this tutorial, let’s use the ‘Sample Course’ tool as an example. Click the external tool to add it to your course.




5. Enter your preferred activity name.




6. Click the expand button under the section ‘Grade’.




Check the box as indicated below.



InfoNOTE: Ensure that grade saving is enabled to allow the LTI to effectively record grades.


7. After applying all settings, click ‘Save and display‘.




8. A preview of the external tool will be displayed.
